My Sunday’s have taken on a certain rhythm to them: fetching bagels or pastry before Opal wakes up, spend the early afternoon waffling over which bike I actually want to ride, then frantically kitting up and getting out the door quick as I can, usually with 1 or 2 hours before the sun sets. Today the choice was easy; it had to be the Honzo hardtail. Even though trails were pretty damp, I knew I’d find something fun to ride. I dipped into Frick, moseyed thru the slags, then climbed up to one of my favorite spots. Powerline trail in Glen Hazel is one of the gnarliest descents I’ve been able to find in this city. Around 2 minutes of wide-open, truly concerning speed on a trail that is maintained by nobody. Getting to the start is fun too, you ride up the abandoned Rivermont Street through what used to be a neighborhood in Hazelwood, some of the frames and foundations are still standing. Very quickly it becomes apparant when you’re out there, you’re truly alone, and trying to describe where you are to somebody would not go very well. Best trail. It usually only ever gets ridden during the Big Stupid Ride that happens in December, but I’ve been giving it some extra attention lately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
